Encino sits along the Santa Monica Mountains between Sherman Oaks and Bel Air. It covers approximately 10 square miles, and has one of the lowest population densities of anywhere in the Los Angeles area.
The town’s name means “oak” or “evergreen” in Spanish. Historians believe the name comes from the town’s famous Encino Oak Tree, which had stood in the spot near Louise Avenue and Ventura Boulevard for more than 1,000 years. That tree was designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1963, but was destroyed by a storm in 1998. A plaque remains in the tree’s honor, and commemorates the town’s history and name.
With a population of just over 50,000 residents, Encino is often thought of as one of the best places to live and work in Los Angeles County. In particular, it is given good ratings for its family friendliness, low commute time, and low crime rate. All of these things stand out as a clear attractor for businesses looking to settle in the area.
The area is host to plenty of restaurants and coffee shops where you can easily conduct business meetings or host client events. In particular, the area along Ventura Boulevard known as the Encino Commons is often referred to as the “Miracle Mile”, and hosts a number of retail businesses. Getting around the Miracle Mile is something people can easily accomplish on foot or bicycle as the street is lined with wide, well-paved sidewalks and improves the area’s walk score significantly.
