What the Southwest Federal Center is best known for is housing the headquarters of several cabinet-level government agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Two office buildings for the U.S. House of Representatives are located in the Southwest Federal Center as well.

The Federal Center SW metro line serves commuters to this neighborhood. Commuters may travel to nearby cities such as Vienna, Fairfax, New Carrollton, or Springfield on one of the station’s orange, silver, or blue lines.

Despite being primarily a government center, Southwest Federal Center still offers hotels and restaurants scattered throughout the area.
